1984 Topps Chicago Cubs

Date Completed: December 25, 1984

Cubs 1984 Record: 96-65. Finished 1st in NL East

Best looking card: Ron Cey - the penguin looking very penguin-like in this photo
Worst looking card: Larry Bowa - looks like some of my little league players scared to get into the box

Best Fun Facts:
  • Chuck Rainey - lost no hitter with 2 outs in the 9th on August 24, 1983
  • Carmelo Martinez - hit a homer in 1st MLB at bat on August 22, 1983
  • Jody Davis - hit two grand slams within 2 weeks (June 12, 1983 and June 26, 1983)
Things I like about this set:
  • My parents bought me this set for Christmas the year it came out. It immediately went into a binder so the cards are exactly how they came out of the factory box set.
  • Nice white border, and I like the team name down the left side - front names are also easy to read along with positions.
  • Well designed backs and easy to read information and stats. Like the team logo on the back, but think this would have looked cool on the bottom right front of the card, while removing the box photo.
Things I don't like about this set:
  • Again with the Purple for the Cubs (like the 1983 borders).
  • Don't need the extra photo on the front, and the ugly yellow background. Takes too much away from the photo.
  • Laziness again on fun facts and player information.
