Whew what a whirlwind the last seven weekends have been! My 15 year old's travel ball season has been quite the adventure.
Games take on more of a showcase feel which means fewer games on weekends (sometimes no Sunday games if we did not qualify for bracket play), but the games now start on Thursday. Sometimes one game at 9 am, another at 11 am -- on a Thursday. Luckily I have enough vacation time available to take days off, but it makes for some pretty busy weekends.
Have not had much time for anything else, but am making sure to take the time to enjoy every moment because you never know when the last game might be.
This Saturday was the first Saturday we haven't had a game since May and discovered a card show was taking place in Carmel, the town next to ours. I went with low expectations because there was a lot of Pokemon cards featured on the flier.
I was fortunate to find Joe's booth. He had a ton of vintage, and I spent over an hour there working through the Cubs team set needs. His cards were in really good shape. So much so that I did a double take on some of the 1967s because the backs looked more like O-Pee-Chee's than Topps.
It was great visiting with him hearing that he got most of his cards from a doctor's collection -- he literally had boxes and boxes full of 1957 - 1977. He had a lot of starts for very nice prices as well. I was able to get all these vintage cards for $40, which included several high numbers from the 1970s. Not bad for $2 a card, which included the 1970 Santo and Cubs Team Card. Found out he doesn't live far from me either and has some lower grade Ernie Banks and Billy Williams available for sale!
Was also able to pick up a few of these cards for 25 cents each from a different dealer.
These are kind of eclectic but guys that I like to collect. Hunter Greene is really one of the only modern players I'm collecting these days. Having watched him pitch live, the guy is amazing, just doesn't get much attention playing in Cincinnati. Once he gets into his next contract, I'm thinking he'll become a Yankee, or Dodger at some point.
Other than baseball season just been working. A lot. Usually get in around 6:00 am every morning, and leave around 5:30 or 6:00 every night...sometimes 6:30...so in the evening have watched a few WhatNot shows.
Was able to pick these up and the max I paid was $3.00 for the Fidrych, which is a surprisingly expensive card. The McCovey, Santo, and Williams was also a great pickup. Even though it's not in great shape, 3 superstar HOFers is a pretty good deal.
So now although our family's baseball season is over, looking forward to some cooler fall weather and the start of Football season.
