1983 Topps Chicago Cubs

Date Completed: Various times

Cubs 1983 Record: 71-91. Finished 5th in NL East

Best looking card: Ryne Sandberg - biased because it was my first ever "big" card purchase
Worst looking card: Tom Filer

Best Fun Facts:
  • Randy Martz - allowed 2 hits in Complete Game Win vs. Mets on 08-05-82
  • Not really much by way of fun information as Topps seemed to get lazy this year putting out more game highlight information on the backs this year.
Things I like about this set:
  • This set was about 4 years before I was at the age where I really started collecting cards. It was very foreign to me at the time.
  • Like the dual photo and the circle photo is a lot better than 84's square box.
  • Nice card design and colors - easy to read.
  • Looking at the entire team, I like the mix of action shots, posed shots, and unusual shots. Kind of a good mixture of not too many action photos and not too many close ups.
Things I don't like about this set:
  • Purple on the front borders is a bit weird for the Cubs. Maybe they could have gone with red as that would have looked sharp.
  • Cropping on some shots just looks a bit off.
  • Lack of effort that went into the back information. Seems kind of lazy this year.
