1985 Topps Chicago Cubs

Date Completed: December 25, 1985

Cubs 1985 Record: 77-84-1. Finished 4th in NL East

Best looking card: Lee Smith - like how it looks like he's getting ready to field a bunt off the mound
Worst looking card: Leon Durham - looks like he's ready to let an '84 grounder go through his legs

Best Fun Facts:
  • Rich Hebner is employed as a grave digger during the offseason!
  • Ron Cey cut recordings "Playing the Third Base Bag" and "One Day at a Time"?!?
  • Dick Ruthven's twin sister Debbie, is married to Tom Hutton, broadcaster for the Expos.
Things I like about this set:
  • This was another Christmas gift from my parents so another one that went into the binder, although I completed most of a second from vintage purchases.
  • Topps finally got the red and blue combo on the graphics, these cards look so much better without pink, light blue, and purple on the front.
  • Like the position of the logo on the front. Not too obnoxious and works well with the boxed team name.
Things I don't like about this set:
  • Backs don't do much for me at all. Too hard to read with the blend of maroon/brown/red and green backgrounds.
  • Stats are really difficult to read, even with my old man glasses on it's a struggle.
  • I'm fine with the white border, but wonder how these would have looked with gray or black borders.
