Perfect Game Collection #3

Finally getting into a few of the cards that I could actually afford! A 1966 Koufax might take a little more time to get into the collection tough, so for now a 1990 Topps Turn Back the Clock card will have to do.

The Jim Bunning card is actually in fairly decent shape for being nearly 60 years old. His perfecto came against the New York Mets on Father's Day 1964. Was quite surprised to learn that he was a US Representative & US Senator for the state of Kentucky for 24 years after his baseball career ended! Apparently, he committed the cardinal sin of talking about his no hitter while it was taking place...

Koufax's perfect game in 1965 against the Cubs was nearly a double no-hitter. It was the first no hitter pitched at night, as the Dodgers only got one hit against Bob Hendley. Lou Johnson got a double in the 7th, however that hit did not even result in the Dodgers' sole run. Much like Addie Joss' perfect game 57 years earlier, the sole run was from a walk and a later fielding error, so was actually unearned.

I was able to pick up the 1969 Catfish Hunter for a pretty decent price on COMC, even if there is a massive chunk missing out of the back! In his perfect game over the Twins, he also hammered them while at the plate too -- he went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Seems like a good way to ensure you don't have to take a perfect game into extra innings like Koufax or Joss.
