O-Pee-Chees and 2024 Updates

Tough time of year around here as we go through some miserable weather days. Had some days with highs in the single digits, but then some weather back into the 40s (it’s a heat wave!). Not much to do outside except bundle up and go for a long walk. Meanwhile my oldest is just getting started with baseball winter workouts which are Saturday nights from 5-7 at night.

Last weekend was able to pickup some O-Pee-Chee cards of some PC guys. Been really interested in expanding my collection into those cards from north of the border — who knows maybe in a year or two Canada will be our 51st state?

I love the fact at how easy the backs of these are to read compared to their Topps counterparts. My nearly 50 year old eyes love how bright the backs are and how much easier it is to read the statistics. Wonder what the difference in printing costs were and if that might have been the reason Topps were so much darker.

Today we made an errand trip to Meijer and was able to pick up some 2024 Topps Update to add to the collection. Overall not too disappointed, except for the fact that one of the purple parallels was actually stuck into the glue of the packaging. Oh well, it’s not like that will be a huge value card or something that’s going into a one-touch, but still a little disappointing.  A good mix of rookies in here and really like the Ohtani/Trout card.

My favorite of this group is definitely the Imanaga as it’s always great to get a Cub, but would have liked to have seen him in the pinstripes instead of the All-Star uni.  My goal will be to get the 2024 set complete here before the start of summer!

  1. Opeechee cards are awesome. I don't even mind the rough edges on the older ones.
