Team Set Completion - 2018 Topps Chicago Cubs
This was the 2nd of 3 team sets acquired last weekend. It was a fun one to go through and organize as this team still had many of the players from the 2016 World Series winners.
It is also so disappointing to look at the composition of this team and think that they finished 2nd in the NL Central and lost the one wildcard game to the Rockies. This team had so much veteran talent that they were certainly contenders for a World Series appearance again.
2018 is an interesting set for me as it is the first year my oldest son really got into cards. He would have been 8 at the time so we were not quite into the travel baseball scene and still playing in our local Little League but he started to really get into baseball around this time. We bought quite a few packs together and had a great time opening and learning about players.
Overall I like the design of this set. I liked the prominent team logo placement but the “wave / Chutes and Ladders” thingy is a little odd. The player name area and team name area has a cool effect where the background looks like it’s crumbling apart.
Some fun facts on this one:
Player born closest to my current town = Kyle Schwarze, Middleton Ohio, 107 miles away
Player born farthest from my current town = Jen-Ho Tseng, Taipei, Taiwan, 7,617 miles away
Favorite card = Team Checklist - All Smiles. Just a neat card with Kris Bryant, Kyle Schwarber, and Anthony Rizzo, three favorites that were instrumental in the ‘16 World Series team.
Least Favorite card = Dillon Maples - just kind of an odd pose and photo.
I really like the Javy Baez.
ReplyDeleteI agree thats a pretty good action photo as well. Feel like most of the action shots are pretty solid in this set.
DeleteLots of big names on this roster. My favorite card would be Zobrist and the ivy.
