World Series and End of 2026 Season
Lots happening in life these days. Stepped down from my previous high stress / high risk job at the start of September, and took on a new role with a much more financially stable company. Just over a month in now and things are going well.
Youth baseball season wrapped up a few weeks ago. My youngest capped off his last ever game in our town's Little League program with a fall ball championship win. The team walked it off in the last inning and it was a great end to over a decade of games at our local park in which we played in well over 100 games between the two boys. My youngest is planning on playing in the upcoming Babe Ruth season but that's about a 45 minute drive for us and no longer local.
The oldest wrapped up his 17U fall season on a great note. We thought his fastball was 76-77 mph, but in a fall game that had the tracking sensors all over the stadium, he was getting his fastball home at 84 mph! Not bad for only just having turned 16 back in March, so there is room to get to 90s once he gets that growth spurt that comes in our family at the end of junior year. Couple that with a triple in his last game against a kid throwing 88 mph, he is really showing signs of being able to play at the next level!
I've been slowly adding to my collection with cards from WhatNot and vintage searches from a trip or two to the local card shop to look through their monster boxes of 70s and 80s cards.
Two weekends ago my youngest and I spent about two hours there and came away with a 330 ct box for $10. He finished the Tigers 2026 Alan and Ginter team set, while I finished up the Cubs and Royals team sets. People buy $230 hobby boxes of those and simply get rid of all the base cards, so we were happy to grab those up for 3 cents each.
We did buy 3 packs of 1991 Ultra as I'm trying to finish that set. I let him open those up and the first card he pulled out was a Ryne Sandberg gold card! He was happy to add about 50 or so Detroit Tigers cards since that seems to be his favorite team these days!
My last big purchase for $10 on WhatNot was nearly completing the 1971 World Series set with the iconic Brooks Robinson card where he looks like he's combing the desert! I'll keep looking for these on WhatNot or the LCS and building this out slowly but surely.
Now onto winter around here with little to do outdoors and our Saturday afternoon / evening baseball conditioning workouts...
